Stratton Open Space, an oasis in Colorado Springs, CO

Stratton Open Space was purchased by the city of Colorado Springs in 1998 to protect vegetation and wildlife habitat and provide trails and recreation opportunities for both locals and visitors.

Stratton Open Space is a 318-acre park located in southwest Colorado Springs, Colorado, just 3 miles from downtown. It’s a perfect place to spend a day or an afternoon in nature without having to drive for hours. There are two reservoirs, 15 miles of trails, plenty of wildlife (deer, foxes, and birds, etc.), and an arresting view of Cheyenne Mountain. 

While the area is most popular with mountain bikers and hikers, dogs are allowed off leash in certain areas. One of those areas is a big reservoir where pups can frolic and play in the water!  The park is located next to North Cheyenne Canon Park and also provides access to the Pike National Forest. It is open from 5:00am to 9:00pm and offers amenities such are restrooms, picnic areas and parking lots.  If you're planning to visit Stratton Open Space it's a good idea to plan ahead and prepare by checking the weather forecast, planning your route, and reviewing the park's rules and regulations. Enjoy your visit!
